Reopening announcement

Dear Patients,

We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.

COVID-19 has been a very difficult time for all of us and for the Dental Centre with the shutting down of dental services in the province of Ontario. We understand that many of you have been forced to wait for your dental care.

We deeply appreciate your understanding and patience during this time, as we all tried to do our part to control the spread of this pandemic.

We are happy to announce that we are planning to reopen the Dental Centres for patient treatment on July 6, 2020. Our new hours of operation will be 9:00am to 5:00pm.

We have cancelled all future appointments that had been booked in all Dental Centres. On July 6, 2020 we will begin by seeing and treating emergency and urgent cases only. We will triage and prioritize cases based on severity.

We are limited in our ability to treat patients as we used to, by the need to maintain social distancing, availability of personal protective equipment or PPE, etc. Each week we will evaluate the pandemic situation and with the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Public Health Ontario gradually expand our services to include more elective treatment, including hygiene services.

Your health and well-being continue to be our highest priority. We have carefully prepared and updated our practice procedures. We are also training our dental team to do all that we can to minimize the risk of COVID-19 to everyone in our community. Please be assured that we will be taking care of you, just as well as we will be taking care of our own families.

Infection control has always been a top priority for the Dental Centre. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe during these challenging times.

You will see many changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff members:

48 Hours before your appointment

  • Our clinic will communicate with you beforehand and ask you to complete in full a screening questionnaire for Covid-19 and a “Patient Acknowledgement” form (a sample of each of the forms is provided on our website). We will text or email the questionnaire to you or call you and ask to speak with you in person. A link has been posted for you to access the forms through our website:
  • You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the clinic.

Upon your arrival at the Dental Centre

  • Please wait in your car, outside the clinic or in the lobby until your scheduled appointment time. Call or text us to let us know that you have arrived.
  • Please wear a face mask to the clinic: while you use public transportation; wait in the lobby; ride the elevator of our building, etc. We ask that you do this for your safety and that of others around you.
  • The clinic will call or text you when we are ready to see you and carry out your in-person-screening.
  • Your screening will be reviewed once more, as soon as you enter the clinic.
  • We will be taking your temperature with an infrared, touchless thermometer and check your oxygen blood level with a fingertip SpO2 oximeter.
  • You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth, since those items are very difficult to clean and disinfect.
  • We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.
  • We will give you a pair of non-latex gloves to wear while you are in the clinic.
  • ONLY scheduled patients will be allowed entry into the clinic.
  • Patients must visit the clinic unaccompanied. Parents/guardians and other family members of the patient will be asked to wait outside whenever possible.
  • The reception area chairs will be spaced apart to allow for 2 meters or 6 feet of social distancing.
  • We will ask that you continue to practice social distancing measures in common areas of the clinic at all times.
  • There will be no physical contact with patients with the exception of treatment.
  • Note: Any patients showing signs or symptoms of possible COVID-19 illness will be asked to reschedule their appointment.

Your treatment

  • Operatories in which aerosol generating procedures will be performed (operatories in which we will use dental drills) will be equipped with high-volume air filtration and purification units. These operatories have been sealed to prevent the contamination of surrounding areas. We have ordered the air units and are waiting for their delivery. Until that time, we will follow the CDC guidelines and allow the appropriate fallow time (clearing the air of aerosol) between patients. For that reason, you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment.
  • Before, during and after patient care, our team will STRICTLY follow Infection Prevention and Control guidelines set forth by CDC, Public Health of Ontario and our dental governing bodies. This includes sterilization of dental instruments, disinfection of operatories and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • We have added additional measures such as plexiglass or glass panels in all reception/front desk countertops.

Checking Out After Your Appointment

  • We will ask you to call us back 14 days after your appointment to let us know how you are doing and to report whether you have any signs or symptoms of COVID-19.
  • We are proceeding with an abundance of caution, but we want you to feel as confident as we do that any visit you make to our clinic will be a safe one. We look forward to seeing you again and are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, safe in our Dental Centres.
